I've got a little off topic question. Has Loosie evolved or been trained?

Before we post again, perhaps we could think about where this thread is really going. We've turned a piece of innocent humor into an argument over which is better. I'm pretty sure this isn't what the OP had in mind, so perhaps we should rethink our responses a little better

Don't mind me! I am loving this discussion.

Techies are generally misrepresented as being more 'machine oriented' than people or social oriented. I think this thread proves that at least some of us have a soft heart, if not necessarily directed at other human beings.

In many cases, I prefer the companionship of my dog to a lot of people I know. He is far more loyal, and will do (or at least try to do) anything to please me. And he will risk his life defending mine (he has been trained, and proven, to do this).

I don't know a lot of humans that would do that...

Perhaps I've just always had the best cats in the world, because my siamese is very loyal. He is the friendliest animal I have ever met--friendlier than any dog I've seen. I guess it depends on the animal's upbringing. Perhaps that is the only reason I like cats better than dogs--I've just always had great cats!

Okay, I'd have to agree with you on that one

I have to wash my sheets frequently, but it's definitely worth it for the companionship and adoration my cats give me.

 

IMO, Dogs are the most domestic animal there is on Earth.

I do not think higher either Cats or Dogs are higher evolved because I do not think higher evolved has any real meaning. The question of more adapted I would give to the Dogs because of all the difference in the Dog breeds.

I tossed the evolution comment just to see the response. Not at all what I expected. I'm pleasantly surprised to read that some intelligent people, question or have problems with the theory. Currently I'm going through "Origin of the Species" been awhile since I read it.
At any rate, anyone been to Key West, Mallory Square? 4 years ago there was a fellow who had trained cats. As I recall they walked a tight rope and one jumped through a ring of fire. The guy had a really annoying voice and shtick, so maybe the cats were doing this so the guy would shut up. The cats, as I recall, were nothing special, domestic short hair of mixed heritage.
As for me, I've had both, some had great personalities, others were lumps. Can't say I have any favorites, each have their good points. Did have a watch cat, if he hid under the bed, there was an intruder on the property, the dog just slept through it.

Yeah, it was an interesting twist. I don't personally believe in Evolution, but it was nice to go down a road of thinking "what if?" and seeing where it took people

My Siamese is very sensitive when it comes to new people. He always perks up his head and ears if there's someone on my property, whether in a car or on foot. He also has an unearthly sense of when I'm going to leave and when I'm going to come home. I often come home from work or a vacation to see him sitting in the window waiting for me. He makes a very good watchcat!

 

Intelligent people also support evolutional science. I have a copy of Origin of Species on my shelf -- for the last 20 years or so. I've read many times. I find evidence of evolution all around, just as a famous biologist said I would. Nature only made sense to me after discovering evolution.

With all due respect, it sounds to me like you are trying to pick a fight. I urge you to reconsider, and perhaps you could try to phrase your opinions a little more politely next time. I would appreciate it.

Yes, I'm sorry. You are probably right. I have had a lot going on lately and I have noticed that I have had a fairly short temper these days. Perhaps I took Brownout's post in the wrong way. It is just that after stating that I didn't believe in Evolution, BrownOut seemed to reply directly saying

I know what it's like to be stressed out. I have exploded on a few people here, and in my daily life.
