I am a 50 year old guy that studied electronics at a time that bulbs were starting to be replaced by transistors.
I changed school at 19 and started to learn to be a social worker / therapist.
At a moderate pass i am picking up my old interest and with a lot of triall and error slowly am catching up again.

Just joined the site after researching 7404 and 7414 based oscillators on that thread. Looks like a great group. Am just getting back to learning about electronics, with specific interests in microcontrollers (both Arduino & PIC), robotics and ham radio. Have been a ham on and off for 60 years. Am retired and live on a ranch in Northern California. Enjoy prototyping circuits.

That's funny. The "bulbs" are normally called "vacuum tubes" in the US or "valves" in the UK.

I'm sure a pre school child would call a vacuum tube a bulb, as their only point of reference is the light bulbs in the house.

I was familiar with impedance, resistance, inductance and radio communications before I even got into high school. That is why I credit amateur radio for steering me to electrical engineering as a life long profession working in power generation, transmission and digital telecoms.

Don't get out much. So I'm think this is is the wrong place to intro. Retired Avionic field support guy, the one they sent out to figure out why the autopilot is flying upside down. I'm a long time electronic hobbyist. Might be able to contribute and will be looking for ideas for a project I have in development.

 

Hi everyone I`m a retired Motor technician just luv to build things. I`m 76 yrs of age I decided to build myself a
desktop and it spiralled from there I like repairing my friends P.C.s Laptops etc. I must admit I`ve fitted a few
Motherboards which cured the problem but testing them to find faults (capacitors, resistors, diodes etc) is beyond me
so I`m hoping to learn from the forum to help me diagnose these problems hope I hav`nt bored you with my introduction. yours thankfully brianburnett75.
