Good luck with your retirement and getting back in to electronics as a hobby. Microcontrollers are so cheap and easy to use these days that you'll probably want to learn one or two. It's not like you won't have a lot of discretionary time...

 

I've never fully understood processors & controllers, nor the software associated with it.

If you ever decide to venture into that field, let me know and I'll be more than glad to help you any way I can.

I'm a retired robot repairman. Went to Bradley for a year. Worked as an et for a while and obtained 2 patents. One was an LED VU meter with a moving dot display. Everybody went with the bar graph type.

Worked decades as an industrial electrician, then industrial robot maintenance. (Mostly heavy weld cables and air and water hoses)

Fluent in PLC and hard wired ladder logic. Familiar with "Safety" PLCs. Put my trust in chain circuits! Don't trust anything that normally fails ON. (most semiconductors)

Like working on vintage electronics. And running live sound. But I can't hear some feedback ringing frequencies anymore.
So I don't do that much now.

Hi all,

I'm a software engineer by training, but always enjoyed working on embedded and low level software. After college I spent the first 13 years of my career developing software for cockpit displays and airborne file servers, lots of drivers and interfacing to in house designed and built hardware. It was fun stuff.

More recently I have moved completely over to the dark side to run our IT department.

As my kids get older though, I find that I have more free time, so I've been looking into some small DIY projects in electronics and embedded programming. Yeah, I could buy an Arduino, but why? I figure it would be just as much fun to build the computer from scratch. Maybe even do a blog about the journey.

Looking forward to exploring this sites resources and chatting with the membership in the forums.

I have a few kickstarter projects in mind - and most are centered around lightening solutions. Lights for bicycles, lights for the home.

I have studied engineering in my birth town of Berlin (the one in Germany) and work since two decades exclusively in the domain name market (Internet domain acquisition, brokerage, etc). Since 2005 I am also creating new gTLDs - like: ".berlin"

I emigrated to Riga in Latvia 12 years ago: a real cool place to live. I also lived 2 winter half years in Southern Florida (also a real cool area - and WARMER).
