Hi everyone,

I'm a chartered engineer currently working in the instrumentation and control market for the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen, Scotland.

I did electronics a long time ago and dipping back in and finding out I have forgotten an awful lot of what I studied at university so hoping to get help and advice to stop me going around in circles with google!

thanks!

Cat.

Hey guys,

<snipped site promotion - see TOS>

I worked at NASA's Kennedy Space Center for two years in the cryogenics test laboratory. I'm an electromechanical engineer and my hobbies include pretty much everything electrical and mechanical.

I've been looking for a new forum because the r/electronics subreddit isn't really doing it for me. What's your favorite part of this forum?

Welcome to AAC!

My favorite part about AAC is that there are so many wizards in one place you are likely to find the right answer in very short notice.

So I guess we can't post youtube videos here? What's the point of that? I posted a video discussing sensor communication protocols and it got removed.

Yes, you can. It goes either in The Completed Projects forum or in your blog.
Here is an example in my blog.
There have only been 11 comments for blogs on this site in the past two years. Little to no engagement at all. With over 300,000 site members, it seems that posting a blog is pointless. I came here for thoughtful discussion and to see what other people are working on, which doesn't always need to be a completed project. It could be as simple as someone making a video about a neat circuit and explaining how it works.

So I can't share videos of my projects or tutorials?
Depends. If the post is a direct response to a member's question that actually answers the question, yes, it is permitted. But when someone joins and the first-and in your case duplicate-posts are unsolicited links to a YouTube channel, for-profit blog etc. that constitutes advertising and/or site promotion which is not allowed. This is a commercial-free space. There is a homepage line in your profile where you can put a link. Established members that show commitment to the forum in the form of answering questions and sharing expertise por nada, are sometimes permitted to have a link in their signature line. There also minimum numbers of posts required before you can edit or PM. Those constraints are in place to deter spammers.

I won't argue that it's a perfect system or that your videos don't have good info, they do. But that's the way we operate.

Welcome aboard!

That would be nice but actually I enjoy working on preserved railways, I have helped retube several locomotives in my time but getting a bit old for the really heavy stuff :)
