Hi,

I need some advice on how mounting holes for PCBs should be done in my project.

I will have a couple of PCBs inside a plastic enclosure. They will be mounted to the enclosure with metallic screws. Should the mounting pads for these screws be connected to the ground plane of the PCB?

I also have protective earth available (used by external equipment).

 

I see no gain or loss from the mounting screws being grounded or floating if they contained entirely within the plastic enclosure.

 

Let's say you'd sometimes open the enclosure to do some rewiring. I suppose it would be best to connect them to ground plane, to make sure there is no charge on the screws?
