What's this circuit does? An electronic switch?

I see a transistor, potentiometer, capacitor, and two inputs and outputs. Would it be a good guess to say it's an electronic switch?

Yea, you're right, googled "voltage regulators" and found pictures of it... "Linear Regulator Input 4.5V-40V Output 1.2-37V"

Hi,

What is the part number.
Looks like the heat sink is a little small for most linear regulators.
