What type of accelerometer is this?

Are standard MEMS accelerometers piezoelectric or the other kind? This particular one is being used as a tap sensor to sense movements before tragus(near side burn). Usually accelerometers sense in the device they are used, this one is sensing outside, so I'm curious.
