This receiver works VHF/AM airband. Am after buying one if there is a 'squelch open' or 'tuned' pin on its IC that I can tap/use to activate something else when the channel is active. How to find the IC it uses, or IC manufacturers that produce similar chips ? Need to look at its data sheet.

Try contacting the manufacturer of the radio, or buying one and opening it
up.
