All worked! just having issues with the signal wires - my alarm outputs 0v in alarm situation, and the device takes 12v as alarm situation!

Hi Mark,

Any chance you could draw me a diagram like you did with the LED green/red indicators?

Gave it a go, but think i've fired the transistor :(

The LED one works great though! thanks!

Here you go. There is a potential problem in that this is open collector output (with a pullup resistor), so if more than a small current is drawn from the output at high level then the output voltage drops.
Whether it's a problem depends on the input type that it is connected to. If it's a transistor or optocoupler input it should be no problem, but if it's the coil of a relay, it's going to need a rethink.
If you have a multimeter, check what voltage this circuit outputs connected and disconnected to the equipment.
