I think the thought process gained from some upper division courses is also useful.
for me, it just takes one decade to find out they are useless:Calculus usually starts the first term of college unless you need the remedial pre-calculus course. All 2nd-year courses will be using it for math. At least that is how it was for me 5 decades ago starting college.
