Hi!

So my precious rice cooker stopped working and coming of of one of the power leads is this thing below which must be blown because there is an open circuit around it. Need to replace it but don't know:

What it is?
What "size" it is?

Thanks,
Lance

It is a thermal fuse. Look on the body of the fuse for a part number or a temperature value.
If it is blown, the likely cause is that the shut off mechanism failed to turn off the cooker. You need to check that first otherwise the new fuse will blow again.

This fuse is critical. It is the last line of defense. If this fails to open your cooker can start a house fire.

Super, thanks guys... the only deciperable number is a 184.... from looking online it seems rice cookers might have 10a-15a fuses with about 180-200 degree temps, so if that sounds reasonable, that's what i'll look for...

If you find replacement for the fuse, be aware that the connections are almost impossible to solder fast enough, and therefore need to be crimped.
And that is why they are usually crimped or spot welded into the circuit.

Suggestion:
This is was a recommended practice for soldering transistors back in the days when they were all germanium. (below)

It also helps to leave the leads as long as safely possible.
