Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I would like to seek opinion on my question. I have a silicon chip(Integrated Chip), and I want to put it into a transparent plastic tube(the tube is long but is of the same width as the IC). I want to detect whether the IC chip is inside the transparent tube, what sensor should I use? I was thinking of laser sensor. I'm open up to suggestion! Thanks!

A simple LED and phototransistor would do it.

You can use a laser diode if you want but at a very short range, I would not expect any benefit. An LED with a suitably wide radiation angle will be much easier align than a laser dot.
