That's not a work bench, that's a scope bench.

You guys all have scopes besides me...:(

A chip I would like to find the data sheet on someday is the 4500. It is a single bit CPU, and has totally disappeared from sight. It was a neat chippie.

I keep all my parts and test equipment on a shelf, and break it down when I need it. Generally the dining room table is trashed in the process.
here's what I have on that. All 212 pages.

I generally resort to my scope when all else fails, because troubleshooting sucks, and if I'm probing with a scope I know I'm going to be there awhile...

I 'm craving for a 'scope, but the real thing is a tad expensive in comparison to the situations that I really need it. I 'm thinking of tweeking my sound card for starters as a half-measure.

What do you the high voltage probe for,its in a very handy place.
It does get used a fair amount for setting up scopes and other test equipment. But my Tec HV scope probe gets used more to monitor the output of high voltage ignitors when servicing my moving haed lighting units.

@Bill
Usually I find I need an o'scope when I want to build an amplifier for some of my uni classes.

Another set of cases are when I want to debug or reverse-engineer a device with generally unknown characteristics, and I 'd like to see the transients of the current or possible spikes etc.

A sound card o'scope covers the first case, but for the latter I don't see how it could do the job.

Perhaps The Maldives is not a paradise after all. No dogs. Fine by me. No boose. Well after all boose is not aqua vitae or the water of life. No need for that. But no scopes. How is it possible. That is inhuman. I think even Lossy would agree to that.

Not to mention the fact that one decent wave could wash away the whole country...

@T06,..You ever heard of reading peak to peak voltage,Its not a picture show.
If you know what you are reading and why you are reading peak to peak.
You don't get the shape or curves,but you get a peak,don't get caught
with your probe down. Do we have kiddy watch until 9:00 on the Forum.
