Hello,

OK fellas, it's very common to think of scientists and engineers as being less sociable people (not to mention being called a nerd ).

So, what are the other interesting things you do in your spare time?

I'm amateur photographer and used to draw some years ago, like to play football and sometimes read a bit of history, enjoy learning a new language, listen to music a lot and wish I could play guitar. OK, your turn.

 

I do voluntary charity work for the Wildlife trust and also help raise funds for The Starlight Foundation and The British Heart Foundation

 

Wanna be active in Masonry (lots of charity and food events). Contrary to a lot of opinions, we are not such a secret society, nor are we a cult or a religion. I will gladly answer any questions people might have on a separate thread.

Am active in DeMolay (Boys youth group, 12-20, active in charity, leadership training, fun for the guys). We keep em outta trouble by keeping them busy, and let them have fun and do some good on the side. Till my boy leaves, my Masonic work is pretty much DeMolay.

Having two young kids seems to have eliminated anything I would have previously called spare time.

I just got done coaching the fall season of kids soccer and we are getting ready for some winter indoor sessions. That is followed by the spring soccer season...

I also spend plenty of time in the vegetable garden when the season is right. All of the neighbors have gardens as well so there are plenty of evening conversations about the crops!!

We did just have our Guy Fawkes Bonfire party with about 50 to 60 people over, bonfire and fireworks included! My wife is from the UK.

So, we do socialize on occassion!!

 

In my free time I play poker, build some electronics, program microcontrollers. On the sport side I love to mountainbike.

 

In my spare time (Outside of work and school) work ..I'm a debug Test Technician and going to school for Electronic Enginnering.....but in my time, I have a wife and 2 daughters...we like to go to the movies and the local pool. when its warm we go to the beach. I like to play PS3 alot. I detail cars sometimes and watch WWE and basketball and football. I like to hang out with my girls though mostly. I love building electronics though.

 

It's good to hear that some of you are doing charity work in their spare time.

 

Sport - Football in the winter (soccer to you guys stateside), Cricket in the Summer, darts and pool all year round, badminton, going to the gym, cards and dominos.

Walking - mostly in the glorious fells of Britain, but also on the continent.

Socialising - beer and good food, probably too much of it!

DIY - because I have no choice, but it is all consuming.

Pool If you want a good pool story,you have to vote on it. Or a current poker story. I always
get a thumbs up on my soccer efforts from the good guys. I have a special story on dominos.
I like to tell stories about about what I do. If I see people playing soccer I walk on to the field,I don't
remember being rejected. Soccer players seem to be open,I think langage has some thing to do about
it. Spare time spend on the forum.

Well it is my job and, aside from what I do here at AAC, I do not do anything electronics related in my spare/free time. In that, I am probably quite different from many of the FMs here for whom electronics is a pass time. I get your point though, what else besides electronics do people do in there spare time.

very much into cars and motorbikes and currently in the process of tuning my car as well.

just started going down the gym, as i need to start being more active.

used to belong to various motorcycling clubs, etc before i had a bad accident.

I love inventing little gadgets and projects around the house. This is where electronics and my engineering skills come in (welding, working on the lathe/milling).

It is good to hear about such a diverse bunch of people on this forum and what makes them tick.

 

I attend Michigan State University Women's Basketball games to show my 14 year old neighbor (female) that these women do well in school and are very athletic.

I once asked a graduating senior at their banquet if she knew the difference between the men's program and the women's program? She looked at me for a clue, and the difference could be any number of things, but my answer was simply ... the women graduate.

I fish and hunt whenever I can. I'm active in the American Legion. I'm active on the Coast Guard Chief's forum. I use to visit a few other electronic forums but settled on paying more attention to this one, mostly because of the people. You can't find a finer bunch anywhere.

 

Oh, I forgot to mention playing golf. I don't play as much as I would like, probably because of the crappy weather we get here in the UK!

Hello !
How amusing these ideas are,which is one of my biggest interest, when and at time I am not fiddling with electronic principles is observering human behaviors and ideas. Also I have an interest in drums that I try to give as much time towards.It has that inner investigation of the Mental or Spiritual world of physical dexterity.Of course the developement of patience, which I have noticed, I need very much when pursuing the understanding of electricity and electronic besides learnnig how to play a set of drums.

Come live in Dallas! Sure, we get crappy weather, but we also get 80°F days in January and February! You'll love it (until summer, and the occasional 110° days kick in).

 

As part of my activities and hobbies aside from electronics, I play classical guitar and practice math. In my spare time, I read (too much I'm afraid ) and elmer (or teach) kids about amateur radio and how to obtain their license. Studying for your license includes basic electronic theory so I help the kids with that. I enjoy spending time with them and we both benefit equally from the fellowship. I also do a swim league and run.

Apart from all of that, I most frequently do electronics in my spare time - it has become an obsession.

In my spare time (rare now) it is electronics, restoring my old Mini Cooper, and I run a small theatrical lighting and sound company. My main job is Theatre Technician at a local University.
