I've seen these show up in RF circuits but I'm not quite sure what they do.

 

The one on the left looks like it might be a variable/tuner capacitor. The one on the right looks like a standard potentiometer. To test if the right component is a pot, take a ohm meter and put the ternimals to one of the middle and outside terminals. When you vary the shaft it'll likewise vary the resistance level. Also, you can test the left component with a capacitor meter.

The part on the right is a plain potentiometer.

The left one can be a RF coil or RF transformer.
TOKO and MURATA make them.
The coils and transformers can be used for tuning and oscillator circuits.
You will also find the transformers in the IF part of a radio or analog TV.

I attached an add from a dutch magazine on the TOKO coils.

I would think the part on the right CAN be a potentiometer, but it could also be a variable capacitor, if both of these components come off the same circuit, it could very well be a variable cap. But only a meter will tell............
