What are the most common diodes, caps, ...?

Hello again.

I am currently stocking components for my lab, and i would like to stock up on components so that i don't have to visit a store /order them every other day.The problem is with other stuff, so i would like to know what type / reference of most commonly used components to stock (and quantities).

This is what i have so far (except for resistors, i will not list those; i have all E12 values for the 0-99, 100-999, 1000-9999, 10.000-99.999, 100.000-999.999 and 1.000.000-9.999.999 ranges, 5% tolerance and 1/4W or 1/2W dissipation).

Electrolytical capacitors, in uF (quantities in brackets)
16V: 4.7 (10), 22 (5), 33 (5), 47 (10), 100 (20), 220 (2), 470 (2), 1000 (1)
50V: 1 (20), 10 (20)
100V: 100 (5)​

Ceramic capacitors, in pF and all 50V (quantities in brackets)
1 (30), 10 (30), 22 (10), 33 (10), 47 (10)

Mylar capacitor pack missing from order, don't know what is in it.​

And some others, but i can't make up what is written on them (no mag lense), and the bag labelling is too garbled (IN5231 2D1 2w 5.1V? IN757A745 2D400 MW 9.1V?)​

Those seem to be good generic choices. Make a list of the voltage range, current range and frequency range you'll be working with and try and find the closest components that will work in the widest range. Don't over do it though. When you tie up funds in parts you don't have those funds for other uses. Try and scavenge as much as possible. One old TV/VCR/Radio properly stripped using ESD protection and proper desoldering techniques can yeild a substantial inventory of parts.

Surface mount parts are even more problematic as in many cases they are more expensive due to the labor of cutting them off the reel and you really don't want 10,000 of them to get the good price.

You can get away with using higher voltage parts for capacitors, diodes and transistors they are more expensive but it's worth it if you're reusing them a lot. When the design is perfected you can use the cheaper parts if you plan on making a more permanent device.

I have no intention of using SMDs, they are way too difficult to handle. I'll stick to regular ones, but thanks for the advice.
