I am looking for a circuit diagram whcih will acheive a similar result to these products:-

Is anyone here aware of an open source circuit diagram which will achieve the same result as these products, but at a significantly lower cost? I am happy to do any assembly and/ or embedded programmign in C if that is the most cost effective approach.

The features I need are:-

- Built in Flash storage - 16MB ideally
- Built in Mass Storage USB
- 44.1KHz 16 bit stereo wav file playback
- Stereo line out

Power will ideally be from a 9v source, powering multiple units

The idea being that I can copy a .wav file from a PC directly onto the unit, and then trigger the audio playback - probably using a piezo.

I need 20 such boards for a project, and $400 - $500 is prohibitive

That's great - thanks very much. Following through from their use of the VS100 Chip, it looks like the manufacturers, VLSI, produce a complete unit which does what I need, at a price between 5 and 6 euros - provided I buy a minimum order of 100:-

20 of those would be an OK price (if I could find someone willing to sell me 20 for 100 - 120 Euros), but it would be nice to get the cost down to around 50 Euros for 20 units.

My further guess is that the most likely units at that low price point would be MP3 playback, but I am interested in any experience anyone has of these functions and devices, so that I can get the widest possible picture of what is available or possible
