Hi guys first post, happy to be here.

I am in the design phase of making a toy. I would like to know if it is possible to have pre recoded sound bytes played only when the toy looks in the mirror.

is this something that is achievable or is it very difficult.
Any help appreciated

Thankyou for your reply. Are the two parts described just for the mirror sensor and side of the curcit.

any recommendationa for a decent sounding soundunit and other components I might need.

the ISD820 allows a recorded/replay message up to 20 secs.
If the audio out is not high enough, a LM386 could be used.

Does it have to be a mirror, or can any close-up object trigger the playback?

I would use a TSOP IR sensor and an IR emitted modulated to activate it. Put them each at the end of a tube that would guarantee it would only see the reflection at a controlled angle. This would avoid false triggering you might get otherwise.
