WHY! This blows my mind. Obviously I chose the wrong one.

The key is that the rungs are off angle, and as they hit the table, there are forces produced at different (strange) angles. If you watch near the end, you can see the top bar being "pulled" down before it hits (it is not horizontal any longer). If there were no forces acting on it, that top bar would still be horizontal.
To make it an objective experiment, one would have do the same test with all rungs of the ladder perfectly horizontal....
