Hello to everyone, I don't have any experience on electronics , I would like have your help for an installation I am going to have on my boat.
I have a 12v , 6 Amp Mini pc and I want to connect it on my Boat. My battery is as well 12v, thought I dont think that the Voltage is constant at 12v. I did some research in Internet on how should the connection be made, though I am getting confused with Step Up , Step Down circuits etc.. I don't want to do something nonsense so I would appreciate if you could help me. Thank you a in advance

 

The battery will probably be under charge when the engine is running , about 13.8V, your pc will probably accept this voltage, but you can use a buck regulator to set it to 12V maximum output .

I don't know if i get it wrong, but if I have a this converter, if the battery has 13,8 the PC will be fine, and if it drops uder 12v then it will compensate for that and the PC will still be able to run

 

Yes that will boost the input to a higher voltage , but will also take more current from the battery.
