long story short I broke my usb charger for my vaporizer pen. Could I just run 5v usb cable to the red and black wires and circumvent the charging indicator light and overcharge protection

 

if the original output from the black and red wire was 5v then yes, it would get you by. Myself, I'd take it as a sign to toss both in the trash and be done with the device all together.
