Using my macbook board without power I/O unit?

I have an old macbook air (from 2011). It's problem is that the I/O board keeps overheating and eventually stops working.

This is my guess, since it gets extremely hot and every time I buy a new I/O board it works for about 3 months and then stops working.

I bought a new laptop but am thinking to use the old macbook air as a TV computer (watch videos, youtube, etc on my non-smart TV).
My question is:

would it be possible to connect the power directly to the board without using the magsafe adapter? Alternatively, can I power the whole thing though the battery connector, i.e. remove the battery and plug in the correct voltage?
