I was wondering whether it was a reasonable idea to use this USB charger as a PSU for LED strips needing 5 V. I could possibly take it out of its case and put it into something else.

 

I have a 1 watt white LED in my living room that has been running off a phone charger for years. Just as long as you don't draw too much current from the charger it should be fine.
