You're totally right. Why would we bother putting things on our phones that don't help us communicate?
-he typed on the web browser from his phone (which had a camera, flashlight, and multiple games)

You must be fun at parties.
My iPad charges my Apple Pencil.
i wish my phone would charge my ear buds (wirelessly). It can charge them via usbC cable.

The fact is that while at parties I leave the phone in the car so as to not have the socializing interrupted. My phone is a tool, just like my others, it is not a freshly minted sergeant constantly giving out orders and demanding attention. The camera is occasionally useful, I have a computer for web access that is much easier to use.
And I never ever walk down the street with my face in a phone, unaware of everything else. In short, I am not am not an enslaved phone addict.

If I needed a portable battery box for recgarging toys I could certainly buy a very good one for much less than what your phone/battery charger cost.
