I am taking my first stab at interfacing USB to a Pic. The Pic I have is the 18F47J53. It supports USB.

I plan to connect the chip to a mini USB connector. I am not sure if I selected the right part in DipTrace or not but the connector has a pin called VBus but the chip has a pin marked VUSB. I assume they are one in the same?

The connector has a pin marked ID. What do I do with that pin?

 

I'm curious: when did guessing supersede reading the data sheets?

Wikipedia will tell you that the Vbus pin on the connector is the power pin.

Microchip will tell you that the VUSB pin is for supplying power to the D+ and D- pins.

I'll tell you to just leave the ID pin alone but you'll have to read Wiki for yourself to know why.
