USB charging

I just fixed a JBL flip Bluetooth speaker which had the USB port busted. The board which it was in was very much damaged when I removed it.
I basically soldered a USB cable to the positive and negative. Here is my question - I noticed that in the original board the data lines were also used and two capacitors were placed between Positive and Data + and negative and data negative, what is the use for that? When I fixed it I didn't connect data lines - would that be a problem? It does charge, could the data line have been used as over charge protection?

The data lines are used for serial communication between the Bluetooth and the Host, it doesn't affect the charger.
Ah I see thanks for clearing that, could you please elaborate it a bit more because as it is now the data lines are left floating, and I don't know an instance where the computer would send any data to it. Thanks so much again
