unknown micro controller

It was inside an old kindle keyboard one which was detachable, unsure if it is the original microcontroller for inside one of those hence why I ask

No, as it was never used recently. Just found this old keyboard attachment sitting on its own. Had not seen this in a long time. No use for it as too old.

Looked inside and this wwasthe only thing in it. Just wondered if this was the original part, ie if a kindle separate keyboard would have had this microcontroller inside it.

New to learning about how these work and wondered if it was part of a project like within Arduino set ups as found new arduino kits nearby.

Who told you it was a microcontroller?
No one :D New to learning and only wondering what it is. It was inside old attachable keyboard for an old kindle or reading device.
Hadn't seen this in a long time so am wondering what the part inside does/did.

That PCB hs an ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) on it. It's under that black blob. It is the cheapest way to make something like that and is often used on the cheapest high count production runs. It is very cheap, but only if you make huge numbers of them.

It has a that USB connector and it probably implementing a matrix style keyboard that uses rows and columns of wires that allow fewer wires to be used that one for each key plus a common.
