Once again, 12 volts x 180 amps is 2160 watts, while 2 HP= 2x760W=1520 watts. So the alternator will never reach full output. And probably never be overloaded.

Well I believe we pretty well covered alternators charging batteries. :)

That said has anyone noticed short of defective has anyone noticed an automotive battery with a 60 month warranty will fail at 61 months? Unlike batteries of years ago today's batteries work fine on Wednesday but go from working fine to being toast on Thursday? Years ago a failing battery became apparent but alas that was decades ago. I was a motor head during the 60s.

Here is a weird story which happened to me recently. About a year ago I bought a 2018 Chevy Tahoe. I love this thing and at purchase it only had a single key fob. Dealerships get about $500 for a new fob and programming it. I called Batteries Plus and it cost me under $100 for fob and programming. So as I am leaving I get a warning that my power steering will be inoperative and I thought that was strange, also that my tow package was not operational. How could adding a new programmed fob cause this? I took the vehicle back to my dealership and after a few days, they also gave me a loaner, they had it fixed. Well unknown to me my 2018 Tahoe uses electric for the power steering and tow package and once the computer sensed a failing battery it disables certain features. I got a new battery at no cost and it's been fine ever since. It started just fine and ran just fine other than those warnings I never would have guessed the battery was failing. No check engine light just strange symptoms.

Anyway moving along if the thread starter visits any major auto parts store they can see an alternator test stand and how an electric motor runs the alternator.

Wet lead acid batteries are good for not much more than 5 years (60 months). Deep discharge might shorten battery life, but even "normal use" does degrade the battery over time.
What you may not have noticed (but the system did) were voltage dips during high-load conditions (that especially occur during a period following the engine start). So the system warned you in time.
What's different these times (compared to decades ago): electrical loading of the system hast significantly increased. More/larger fans, power steering and other features have increased the overall load, resulting in ever shorter useful battery lifes. So the deactivation of power-hungry "features" is logical.

Certainly "Du" is correct! and given that so many of those added features are high profit items that provide driver distractions from the task of driving,( which, by the way, is very much a full time task), it comes across to me as unfortunate that there is no regulation to the distraction beyond demanding that the driver not be able to view the entertainment video screen. And that regulation was created MANY years ago.
But this is way off topic, so I will stop at that.
I wonder if the TS will drive the alternator directly, or by means of a belt drive? Direct rive will be much quieter, but probably much more difficult, given that alternator pulleys are often a challenge to remove.
