Has anyone designed and built or built one from another's schematic., or from a kit ?
How did it sound ?
This is on my bucket list. I purely love the look of them.

 

I've built, and repaired all types of vacuum tube amps from Navy MC intercom boxes, tube powered main MC audio amplifiers for an entire ship, Musical amps like Fender, etc ..., to RF tube audio modulators.

Tube distortion seems to sound better for some people, I never really noticed any difference (tube vs solid-state) in audio quality on the well designed stuff I worked on.

 

Loooong time ago, sounded pretty well.

There are tons of modules, kits, and design pages on the innergoogle. Also, there is a forum called diyAudio, and this is a big topic over there.
