Trying to identify part for 2 speed switch

I think it is just a diode (With suitable voltage and current ratings.) that is connected in series with the motor for low speed. This method only works with series wound (Universal. ) motors running on AC.

If it's a diode, and I believe it is, then whatever it's powering I'm GUESSING it's on an AC circuit. A diode will chop half of the wave out of the power thus reducing the amount of power reaching the load, giving a "Low" level of power. When the switch is in another position the diode will be bypassed and the full AC wave will get through and provide a "High" level of power.
