I’m trying to identify some components

Hello all,
My Harley vrod instrument cluster smoked a couple components. Unfortunately the components are physically damaged but I borrowed this picture from the web and tried to enhance it. I know the markings on the component are blurred, but it’s all I have to go by. I’m pretty sure the orange diode to the right is a zener and I think it’s also damaged because the pad lifted and it seems shorted when measured. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to AAC

Can you take good, straight-on hi-res pictures of both sides of the board. The black component is almost certainly a diode.

I took some pictures of the actual pcb that I have. The other pictures were ones I saw on the web of the same area of the circuit board. What happened was I tried to start the motorcycle with a charger hooked up to the battery and the surge caused a very expensive lesson since these parts are not available except for used and questionable parts.

Yes, I think that's a good possibility, though I read that last digit before the Z as a 2, which would make that a SMF12 for a 6v system or SMF22 for a 12v system. Unless that's failed short its a strong likelihood there is going to be other transient damage to the board - the diode to the right is cracked and the light blue part to the left may have suffered some collateral damage too. A board level replacement may be on the cards.

Thanks for the replies, I do appreciate it. I’ll try to clean up the damaged area a bit with a soft brush and some isopropyl and see if maybe markings are easier to see.

I cleaned up the circuit board and took some more photos at different angles to try to get a better read on the markings. Unfortunately the blown orange zener fell off during cleaning but I’m sure it’s the same type as the others. I can use some thin buss wire and solder to the trace. The one I’m not sure about is the rectangular zener with the blister. I want to be sure to get the right voltage type. Thanks
