I'm going to Nashville this Tuesday, and I'll staying there for a week. I've been invited by a couple of friends that'll be attending a convention. I won't have to pay for my room, so I thought, why not? I actually deserve a vacation after all the hard work I've been doing this past couple of years.

Anyone here been there before? Any recommendations for restaurants, museums and places to see?

I think I was there once a million years ago.

I know I have been to Knoxville about a million years ago. Drove down to Cades Cove. That s a 3 hour drive for you, you would want to be over night probably but worth a visit. Very beautiful there.

With all the tech going on in Pittsburgh, you haven't been up hear yet?

I prefer to first visit geographic sites when I visit a new place before I do cultural things. Rivers, mountains, that sort of stuff. It may be peak fall color there so I’d definitely check out local parks.

Nashville is world famous for being a hub of country music, so you’ll want to check out music row, the Ryman auditorium (original grand ole opry) and that sort of stuff. There’ll be a ton of brochures in every airport and hotel.

Whiskey production isn’t a big thing in Nashville but it’s pretty big in the general area. A distillery tour can be fun if you get a chance. Barbecue is pretty big also but not on a par with Texas or KC.

Sorry I don’t have more specifics. Haven’t been there in a long time.

6:55 a.m. in Houston, and only 10 minutes left until the connecting flight to Nashville starts boarding... how's anyone supposed to grab something to eat in such a short time? I'm starving :(

Finally in Nashville. The place looks interesting, and the people are surprisingly friendly. On the other hand, I'm also surprised at the amount of homeless people roaming the streets. I was in Gatlingburg for three days before getting here, and my personal opinion is that the town looks like a Hillbilly version of Disneyland... Other than that, the food is great, but both places (Nashville and Gatlingburg) are more expensive than I expected them to be.

Here are a few pics from the trip, so far:

An Elk burger, which had an interesting flavor, plus cinnamon-seasoned sweet potatoes and stuffed jalapeños:

They're called "Smokey Mountains" for a reason:

This menu is from the place (a small diner in North Carolina) where I had the Elk burger:

I'll be in San Diego from the 20th to the 24th of this month ... any recommendations as to where to go and what to see? ... and perhaps where to eat?

EDIT: I've changed the title of this thread to make the topic a little more general

Headed to Hawaii with the family around the 4th. A few days at the Disney resort there with most of the other time Downtown at the Embassy suites on the beach. The place goes mad with fireworks on the 4th and New Years.

Got a overlapping night at the Aulani Resort for a good price during the weeks stay. Still overpriced but seems a nice day/night adventure even for us older kids.
