Latest Brew.
First effort at a Belgium Trappist Abbey Ale.
Basic wort 25 Litres Brown Ale.

To increase Alcohol:
Belgium Candi, (Beet based sugar syrup)
Honey

For Flavour:
Tettanger Hops
Coriander seed.

Yeast:
Top Fermenting Trappist liquid yeast, laboratory culture.

Final alcohol content: Just over 5.5%
Nice drink!

I have four of these Samuel Adams, but haven't really noticed any difference in the beer!:p

How on earth can they claim that thinner glass "maintains cooler temperatures than thicker variety"? I mean, if a thick and a thin glasses were kept in the freezer, the thicker one would keep the beer colder for a longer time, since it would have a larger specific heat. If both were at room temperature, probably the thinner one would work best, for the same reason.... but I always keep my beer glasses in the freezer anyway.

Also, how come the curved glass shape is supposed to maintain temperature longer than the straight one? Wouldn't it be the other way around? The curved one would have more external area exposed, and therefore the outside heat would travel inwards quicker!

So, here's your problem...
You have lots of science and facts on your side, and you're trying to explain that to a marketing person. Not a market analyst type but an advertising man! He doesn't need a fact, he just needs a story to tell.

I'm not so sure. Thin, warm glass would obviously be better than thick, warm glass. I wouldn't have used the word "maintains" to describe the benefit of less heat capacity, but it's not a complete lie. On the other hand, if you drink slowly, the thick glass might be superior for its insulation effect.

As for the glass shape, I think there is an advantage to a narrowed opening relative to the traditional pint, especially if it helps keep a blanket of foam on the surface. This might outweigh the surface area increase.

I have both kinds of glasses and could do the experiment. If I was motivated. If I prove them wrong do I get free beer?

The closer the shape of the beer (in the glass) is to a sphere, the slower it will exchange heat with the ambient air. A sphere has the lowest surface area per volume.

Last weekend an old friend was travelling through and spent the night at my house. He shared this bottle of scotch with me. I had only ever tried scotch once before that and didn't like it at all. I didn't want to be rude and it was an expensive scotch so he said, so I had some. It was like drinking concentrated extract of forest floor. I called it lumberjack aftershave. We had a good laugh and kept on drinking it. By the time we finished the bottle (it wasn't even half full to start) I think I was actually enjoying it.
