Morgan Freeman says the terms ‘Black History Month’ and ‘African American’ are insults
The actor objected in a UK interview to both, saying ‘You’re going to relegate my history to a month?’ and that the latter phrase is inaccurate
I fully agree with him... a simple label is not enough to describe any individual. Racism has its roots in a lazy (and I should add, evil) mentality.

Just ran across this:
Discovery of String Theory
The story goes that "In 1970, a young physicist named Leonard Susskind got stuck in an elevator with Murray Gell-Mann, one of physics' top theoreticians, who asked him what he was working on. Susskind said he was working on a theory that represented particles 'as some kind of elastic string, like a rubber band.' Gell-Mann responded with loud, derisive laughter."

Murray Gell-Mann was a very smart man.

Why String Theory Is Not A Scientific Theory
But is it a physical theory?

The answer, so far, is no. The first one is a huge problem: we need to get rid of six dimensions to get back the Universe we see, and there are more ways to do it than there are atoms in the Universe. What's worse, is that each way you do it gives a different "vacuum" for string theory, with no clear way to get the fundamental constants that describe the Universe we inhabit, which is the second prediction. The third prediction has come up empty, but we would need to achieve energies that are ~1015 times higher than what the LHC can produce to rule out string theory entirely and falsify it.

L.A. Councilwoman Blames Toyota for Catalytic-Converter Theft, Opposes Motion Targeting Thieves

Rather than vote in favor of a motion banning the unlawful possession of catalytic converters — a valuable automotive part — Nithya Raman, a Los Angeles councilwoman, voted against the measure and blamed car manufacturers for making the part too easy to steal.

“In this case, I think one of the things that infuriates me, is that we have a company — whatever, Toyota — who makes the Prius, that essentially has a device on their cars which is super easy to remove. It’s basically the value of a MacBook, right?”

Those irresponsible car companies.

I hate victim blaming ... it's the worst excuse there is for law enforcement incompetence...

For a few years in the 1970's I had a toggle switch in series with the bell in the house phone. Blocked calls very effectively.
And for a while back in the 80's I installed an "isolator" switch that disconnected all other phones in the house but the one in my room. This to avoid unwanted interruptions and eavesdropping.

Wired phones can (they could before the world when wireless) be your savior.
Stuck on a deserted road in a far away land and need rescue. (Don't ask how you got there  )

Throw rocks on the phone line(s) on the pole until it breaks and wait for a repairman to come.

interesting idea ... did that ever happen in the real world?
