There is a 'more' normal type that's not actively into daily felony criminal activity like stealing and stripping cars on a state owned lot, they just stick to the simple life, like shoplifting and vice.

Widespread shoplifting problem

In a series of reports over the past six months, KGW has documented the impact of shoplifting and organized retail crime throughout Portland. Retailers have been forced to hire private security guards, lock down items, change store layouts, reduce hours or simply close their doors.
That kind of stuff really makes my blood boil. I will straight up tackle a shoplifter, injuries be damned. Not saying everyone can or should do that but the very least a person can do is call the cops. Now everyone just films the horror like a bunch of helpless lemmings.

It's an old story that today has bloomed into the mess we see daily.

Yup. Not wanting to offend someone is simply not a valid reason to withhold this kind of information.

Now, stores require their employees to do nothing lest they incur damages they can be sued for. Any bystander who does interfere is lambasted by the police for doing so. You'd think someone was trying to take their jobs away in a union shop the way they react now. And lawyers rub their hands together in malevolent glee at the prospects presented.

True. But then again, if we do nothing, the situation only gets worse. And again, I am not saying you have to physically confront the shoplifter. Make some noise, call the cops, whatever you can do to thwart the theft. Criminals don't like to be harrassed. So give 'em hell, if you can!

This is an extremely interesting proposal, perhaps it could be expanded to other industries?

Who's paying for the electricity that's powering the servers?

How are they going to cool the servers when the hot water tank is already at max temperature?

What is the impact of distributing all of the servers all over the place? What communications infrastructure is needed to make them work acceptably well? What does it do to the maintenance costs when a server acts up or goes down?

Portland business owner shoots intruder who broke into warehouse
“The whole thing happened so fast I finally had to shoot,” says Jim. “I only shot him when he was standing looking at me ready to come at me and then I just let him go because I just wanted it to be over.”

That’s when Jim says he called 911. Jim says the intruder got out the door and into the street. The intruder was then met by police and taken to a local hospital.

Jim has since installed surveillance cameras on the property and says in his 11 years of business, he’s never had anything like this happen, but is glad he was prepared.

“Anytime I see conflict I usually turn the other way unless I need to help somebody,” says Jim. “I don’t wanna carry, I never wanted to have a confrontation like this but thank goodness I had it that morning.”
