Researchers at MIT have developed a substance that is stronger than steel but as strong as Plastic.

It can be easily manufactured in large quantities, and the use cases range from lightweight coatings for cars and phones to building blocks for massive structures such as bridges, according to Michael Strano, the Carbon P. Dubbs Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT and the senior author of a new study.

“We don’t usually think of plastics as being something that you could use to support a building, but with this material, you can enable new things,” he said in a statement from MIT. “It has very unusual properties and we’re very excited about that.”
The material is several times stronger than bulletproof glass, and the amount of force needed to break it is twice that of steel, despite the fact that the material has only about one-sixth the density of steel, according to MIT.

I think ballistic tests are in order, body armor, even if you could reduce the weight of Bullet Proof vest adding layers of that stuff maybe.

Would be nice, went to a friends house today, a machinist and have him modify posts for the rollers I purchased for pocket doors, his shop is full of machines, unbelievable how many in such a small space, but while I was there he always gets into gun talk, in the conversation vests came up, then pulled out a vest his father gave him, I had never seen how they are constructed. He began removing a bullet proof insert, and I realized why the vest weighed so much.

Kevlar is pretty light.

Kevlar is good, but dealing with bullets and loads you would also be aware of limitations as of course is anything. I’m just saying with that said, we could just simply make it better providing it has stopping power, I doubt it does, e.g. my suggestion.

I’ll speak for others on this site, your $.02 addition was clever, a single word outside my wheelhouse “Solipsism” and I Thank you once again, so you know I do not poses the skill set to write, speak, often corrected, however I did or do often collect words to add to my wheelhouse, depending on the subject required to comprehend subject matter or subjective, connotative, utterances others speak, looking for a single word to describe what I’m thinking or feeling, I care nothing for the listener, reader, I like the way you just speak it without a care in the world for the poor simpleton's requiring and education. Edit: If so, I and my friend discussed this as well. As you made that comment, suddenly “Platonic Solid’s” came to mind, then abstractly I considered shock, which resulted in pounds per square inch, concluding the bullet and penetration is the primary reason for the vests, then the rest is how to control that force or momentum. Which results in Alberts equation.

Thanks for the add-on, I’ve been following archeology where ever I can find it, adding to knowledge and personal interests concerning neanderthal emergence, and extinction. That said, the migratory patterns shown in some findings are clues, but will require more data points for anything conclusive. Adding more questions than answer’s. Good info though, I’ve added to my research, fodder for my book I’m working on, I know DNA, Genetics, aren’t in most peoples minds but, often I wonder? Why is it people absolutely do not care to know or wonder where we came from? Why Human species? Why not other Mammals? What makes us so F….ing important? That is in the past, not relevant to the now, ever present concern for if it doesn’t fulfill my current needs and wants who the F cares right? and what the F does it matter, cause it ain‘t got anything to do with the future, and where do you go from there right?

It often is a mind F……. Tossing to and fro, existence, non existence, habitation, social groups, co-op vs. non-co-op. All I can say is history repeats. If we follow that path, we can see into the future and become time travelers, changing the existence of the human mind, program it force it to evolve, let the current humans on the planet take a back seat moving forward, let the past be only a reminder of where we came from, cling onto a new understanding, this my friends is my new mantra, knowing everything done at CERN or research on Plasma Energy, Solar, sources of energy, can only happen when we find ways to learn that as an organism we share life on this rock, which by the way wants to recycle you on a daily basis, with each moment that passes, incrementally as a species rise and fall, will we continue?
