Everything is doomed, of course, but humans are a long way from it at the moment. The article is one of a long history of dragging pessimism out of good news - reading between its lines humans are conquering each threat as it arises and there's no end in sight yet.

Of course the sun will eventually go red-giant, but we'll likely be ready for that too, come the day.

A peltier heat exchanger would be a safer choice, IMHO...

 

Ever use a peltier cooler? They generally need fans too. You can't win you can't break even you cannot quit the game entropy wins.

What is more, over the past few decades, the quality of human sperm has declined massively, possibly leading to lower birth rates, for reasons nobody is really sure about.

This keeps coming up. Is it possible that in modern times with low infant mortality and in most the world easy access to food and medical care, there is no selective pressure to maintain the "quality" of sperm? Maybe it is nothing to worry about and when it becomes something to worry about natural selection will help straighten things out. Only those with working reproductive systems will be able to reproduce.

 

At 7.9 billion people I don't think that's going to be much of a problem. The real problem is the same as always how do we keep this planets biosphere intact with that many people? Solve that and the rest is gravy.

 

If it is not man himself, it could possibly be another asteroid similar to 66m years ago that did it .

 

Which in all likelihood we will intercept and change its orbit. possibly even using it for raw materials for humanities growing space program.
