AG got permabanned? Didn't see that one coming with all the mods and members begging him 10 pages to stay?
Members indeed begged him to stay, even if he declared he would be banned. I saw it, but chose not to intervene. It was his last thread, after all. I felt I shouldn't spoil it.

I also saw Bill pleading him to reconsider. He must have been "tired computing" at that time, since it was a common mod decision and he took part in the discussions.

Reading Audiogurus last post once more. I more understand his last post. Last time I read it. I saw it as he choose to leave before he eventually got banned. Probably because he got off the hook so often. But it was the other way around. He said goodbye because he knew the ban was already deiced at that moment

That is the way I remember it to t06afre.

I hope the mods will be that nice to me when they kindly escort me off the site because my internal thoughts get so foul that I can't resist ranting about the bottomless well of ignorance that is the internet.

I've only managed 1 ban from beenthere for berating another member, but I got mad and just split for about a year and never knew about it. I had this member who was basically just stalking me on the forum trying to troll me at every turn. Somehow in our fight I got banned a week and he didn't. Never learned why because he was long gone when I came back. I guess he just found new targets and kept at it till he was permabanned.

Since it seems you guys don't check the user titles, jaygatsby was banned permanently yesterday on the premises of disrupting the forum serenity and spamming (don't I sound like a little dictator...). You can stop being polite and answering to his posts. Or whatever was the reason that you replied to him in the first place.

The ban took so long because no hard regulation of AAC was being broken. I might say I went a bit outside of the book, but it was necessary.
No specific rule was broken, but if the types of posts build up, more users will follow, and before you know it, off-topic has turned into 4chan (ok, not that bad, maybe facebook or something).

If that is the image the site wants to project, it's up to the owners to decide, and either add a rule allowing it, or disallowing it. Usually a catch all rule to the effect of "other topics not specifically banned doesn't imply they are allowed, staff/moderator discretion will be used in those circumstances."

HA! That sounds like ETO (Electro-Trolls-Online) The trolls run the site, and their targets get banned.

I don't think that's an accurate description of ETO. There are a lot of good people there, and maybe one or two who will picks fights if you disagree with their opinion.

Not unlike this forum, or for that matter, any bar on the planet where people hang out. ;)

I agree with THE_RB, though I know exactly what you're talking about Brownout. You and I even had some misunderstandings at ETO, and a few times it got out of hand. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only thing either of us wanted was the last word. I think we're past that now, and I'm hoping you can forgive me for my part in the fights.

As for the moderation team at ETO, for the most part they're nice guys, though they seem a bit more de-sensitized to flaming. They're strictly by-the-book when it comes to bans, and they tend to be inconsistent. However, they only have a couple of moderators, and they tend not to be as active as the mods here at AAC.

I received a warning once at ETO (an infraction, which comes before a ban) for starting a thread asking new members to read the rules before posting, to write in full english sentences (not SMS speak) and to try to LEARN how to solve a problem, rather than begging for the answer. The thread got deleted and I got a warning because apparently it wasn't my place to do that. I've seen worse threads over there that have been left untouched. I don't understand their methods, and like I said they're very inconsistent.

There are quite a few trolls there, and honestly I don't understand why they're still allowed to stay. However, there are still so many more GOOD members who actually want to help teach and learn, who use the forum for what it was intended. That makes it worth it for me, and I've made a lot of friends over there. To be honest though, I still prefer AAC.

I don't really see many trolls here. Maybe because I was amongst such a multitude of trolls at ETO, who never seemed to be moderated, this seems like Shargra-La in comparison.
