I have one of these on the wall of my workshop, I open/close the garage door with it.

It's called an 880LMW control panel.

Well I recently had the door stick slightly, it opened anyway but shuddered as it did so.

On the control panel it displayed this:

So I found the reason for the problem, it was due to the door being recently painted and it was sticking on the new paint. I was able to address that and now it opens and closes normally (by pressing that large pad above the word "LiftMaster").

But...

The message remains and I have absolutely no idea how to clear it. The manual is useless with respect to this problem.

I dug around and see that the left most button is described as the "menu" button but pressing it does nothing.

I then read that holding the light switch at the bottom and pressing the second button in from left, gives some kind of maintenance access.

Well I did that and can then navigate a bit but there's no option for clearing the error message. I can only look at software version, an open/close counter and error messages, choosing the latter takes me right back where I began with the error being displayed.

None of the other buttons do anything with or without the light switch pressed and held, only holding that and pressing second button does anything and that takes around in a circle.

I dug more and read that I can lift the top switch up, unscrew the retaining screw, remove the unit from the wall, then disconnect the device from the power by unscrewing the wire retention screw then putting it back, to reset it.

Who designs this pathetic kind of system, who trains these people?

They call this progress?

Did you cycle the power?

No Sir, but no doubt I will end up doing that, of course having a reset button on the unit is just asking for too much these days!

Maybe I will mount a switch on the wall, next to the unit so I can cycle the power more easily.

I discovered these recently, makes it 100 times easier to "reset" my TV when it locks up, I advise everyone here to buy a bunch, help us deal with the ineptitude of the modern world. Just reach behind the TV and "click" and she's reset.

Well I bit the bullet, grabbed my step ladder and reached the top of the garage door machinery, pulled the power for 30 secs and put it back. Even the manual says nothing about how to resolve this.

The message remains, this is what our colleges and universities are turning out, designers who can't design, time for a cold brew.

The door opener at my workshop was simple relay logic. There was a piece of 2x2 against the wall next to it to fix sticking relays - every so often it was necessary to give the control box a good whack.

That system (relay logic plus stick) was in use for many years - a very reliable technology.

Did you really fix the problem?
I'm not saying you have a broken spring, but maybe either there still is a force problem or it just needs calibrated again.

Edit:
It may also be extremely helpful to look up the manual for the opener itself instead of the controller since the opener is where the error is coming from. You may just find your answer there.

I guess at the moment I was a little annoyed with the original post after checking around the internet. The controller itself is designed to work with multiple systems so there is no quick and easy answer to put into the instructions.

If you notice towards the end of the video he mentions the upper and lower limits as well as the force needs to be relearned. I'm sure the limits are still good, but the up and down force settings will need to be relearned or adjusted to clear the error.

Even if the spring is NOT broken, the set screws for it may have slipped taking the torsion load off of the spring. I'd leave setting the torsion on those springs to the garage door installer. Winding that spring up to the correct torsion is not something I would want to tackle. Maybe back in my younger years I might have tried...
