"I recognized through my eleven years of training and experience as a law enforcement officer the substance to be some sort of narcotic," she wrote.

She asked for permission to search his vehicle, the report says, and Rushing agreed.

"I didn't have anything to hide," he said. "I'll never let anyone search my car again."
All this time I believed Krispy Kremes were crack. Never consent to a search, period.

This Sheriff is awesome.
Yay! A real cop found a real crime with a real criminal!
That's way better than pulling the same guy over 50 times for driving while black.
Almost makes me wish there were more real reasons to keep the police busy doing real police work.

I wonder how many cops she has arrested in 11 years for having Kispy Kreme crumbs on their faces.
There's a lot to work with, arresting cops for possession of doughnuts.:D
In fact, you could probably start a War on Cops with nothing but, "possession of doughnuts" charges.

"Hi. We're here to intimidate you."
"Hi. No, you aren't.":D

In a serious moment: That guy that got arrested for doughnut crumbs is 1 year age difference from me and 100 miles away. I have purchased gasoline and Krispy Kreme doughnuts in a store on Park Boulevard at 51st street. (I think it was a 7-11 store.) We have no shortage of grandiose jerks with badges here. The County Sheriff says his deputies will shoot anybody seen open carrying a firearm while in compliance with local, state and federal laws. He said that it made taking money from people difficult when you need a conviction to do it. (Yeah, I bet requiring a crime and an arrest are annoying, too.)

I could be the next person who meets a pompous 11 year veteran with a field drug test that produces an 85% rate of false positive results.
All the cop needs is a suspicion that somebody in that convenience store is selling drugs.

That qualifies as assault. Threatening the life of someone – even verbally – is not legal. He should be frog-walked straight to jail.

It appears to be a case of activist journalism. He didn't really say what was written in that blog.
Our esteemed Sheriff did come across like a rabid Gestapo. The, "he" to whom you refer did quote the Sheriff:
“thrown down on the ground with a gun pointed at them — or worse.”
“going to take one in the chest because he’s a threat.”

Yeah, a properly vetted citizen with a carry permit obliviously walks in on a crime scene, so he's, “going to take one in the chest because he’s a threat.”
That's not the kind of Sheriff I want and I am eagerly awaiting the next election. There are two victims of police harassment running against him. I hope one of them backs out so they don't split the opposition vote and let the present Sheriff win by default.

50 years ago the police and citizens with guns worked together.
I know. That's why this change to the War on the Public mentality is so disturbing. The local police used to be the local citizens. Now they are militarized professionals who fear the people they used to be.
