OK, a pet peeve of mine is my drawer of old razor handles and unused cartridge refills, none of which match up. I resolved to sort that all out and I've discovered it's amazingly difficult.

There are websites devoted to old razors but they seem preoccupied with the old safety razors like my dad used (I wish I had kept those!) and have almost zero detail about cartridge razors like I've always used.

So far, I've had some success in identifying my old Gillette handles: Trac II , Sensor Excel, Mach 3 and Fusion. In the course of that effort I've learned that the Mach 3 is preferred by most of the self-proclaimed experts. It's the sweet spot of just enough technology and reasonable price. 5-blades (Fusion) are great but not worth the cost, they say. I've also learned that Gillette is by far the leader in the market, as acknowledged by competitors.

Anyway, here is my most frustrating handle. I have two of them and can't find an image online anywhere. I have no idea what cartridge they hold. The little metal wings on the end pivot to allow the cartridge to glide.

Anyone know what this is?

I have no idea?

My wife won't let me cut my Beard off, she likes Beards, go figure. But in summer I'll wear a goatee and I shave with razors from Costco but I don't care for the glide stuff they put on them plus the cost $29.99. So, I'm thinking of just going back to a double edge razor like this one and be done with it.

I really like my Gillette Fusion Electric version, the AAA cell last a long time, and no problem so far at getting new cartridge's.

Trash? ;) IMHO not worth worrying about. They update this stuff so often you will likely not be able to find the replacement cartridges anyway. Let it go. ;)

I meant to mention one surprise I learned: Gillette still sells all the cartridge refills they’ve ever made. I loved my Fusion (not “power”) system until I lost the handle.

I actually don't know what razor I have. Let me check this out. Alas, a Gillette Sensor is what it is and I have had it maybe 15 years, maybe 20 I honestly don't know. When I get low on blades I tell Kathy and on her next shopping she gets more of whatever I use. They last a long time as I have a beard so only neck trim. A 10 pack of blades last me a year or more.

I have a couple of Sensor handles but I haven't used them for years.

Razors last me forever as well since I joined a club. After a swim, a hot tub soak and some time in the steam room, just about any old blade works fine. It's a completely different experience than the quick shave at home. It's almost like the difference between a wet and dry shave.

This should be a new thread.:) It's been since July 7, 1968 since I last shaved my whole face. I remember the date because it was my sisters wedding, and she didn't like my beard. I've had a beard since I could grow one, it's been long like Z Z Top, and now fairly short.

Started letting it grow the day I was discharged from the Marine Corps in 78 and have had a beard ever since.

I've had mine since 75 out of High School, when I grew my hair out they would call me Cave Man. I've never been able to grow it long since it itches so much, I look so unkept. I did grow one last Halloween because the theme was Greek Mythology, I'll never do it again, drove me nuts. It's all grey now, use to be Dark Brown, I don't understand how it was like that since my hair was blonde back in the day?

My beard, like my dad's, is a map of my ancestry. I look like a calico cat. Red spots, brown, and these days more grey than anything else. Thank god for modern razors.

For the record, here are some other handles I've identified, the Trac II (silver looking) and the Sensor (Excel I think, yellow).

And now my new Dorco (South Korean supplier of Dollar Shave Club) stuff. I got 3 handles and 20 (6-blade) cartridges for $28. The handle isn't quite as hefty as I like but otherwise seems OK. Will try it out soon.

Compared to my mystery handle
