@cmartinez , We got Toto from the animal shelter when she was about 9.5 years.
She passed away at the age of almost 19 years.

We got Iwan when he was about 1/2 year from the animal shelter, he is now almost 13 years.
We got Ukkie when she was about 3 months from the animal shelter, she is now about 6 years.
Brany and Malutka we got last oktober from the animal shelter.
Brany is about 9 years and Malutka about 10 years.

Wow... we rescued Luca after being abandoned by his mother when he was barely a week or two old... he is now four... hopefully, he'll live to be as old as Iwan at least... God willing... I know that it will break my son's heart when he's gone. Luca's the only pet he's ever had and cares deeply about him... Although he likes to annoy the hell out of the poor cat every once in a while. ... I guess that's one of a pet's responsibilities... to put up with his master's moods and whims...

The classic gone but not forgotten. When we lose a dog friends often ask "Did you replace or Are you replacing..." when the truth is no because there will never be another like the one we lost. Over all the years all of our dogs and our neighbor's cats have been unique. They have all had their individual personalities unto themselves.

Replace is a bad word... but in this case, I wouldn't think bad of someone who asked if you're planning to adopt another pet.

 

Well the Cats took over where the dogs left off, Butterscotch is an Ernest Hemingway breed or at least I've found some people refer to them as such. Anyway, she's Queen B, at 18lbs. She knows she rules.

Right now she's by my bed on the floor, their not allowed on the bed since I'm allergic to pet dander. Still it makes missing the Dogs a little easier having them around.

One of the great dogs we had was Bear. A customer came into a gun shop Kathy and I owned years ago. About 20 years ago. Guy had this puppy on a rope which I began playing with. We had put my Natasha down a few months before and Tasha went a good 17 years with us. I began playing with the puppy as he told me some kids were hitting it with sticks so he took it but was going to take it to the pound as he couldn't have a dog. Rang up his ammo and said to him Brian, leave the dog. He was thrilled I wanted this tiny puppy. Tiny puppy with large paws and a big head.

Named him Bear and he bonded with our granddaughter. He was protective of her and followed her everywhere. She would get him on the couch, place blankets on him, curl up in his mid section and take a nap.


That dog would not stir or move until she woke from her nap. Bear peaked at 130 Lbs and went 14.5 years with us. While he has been gone about 7 years he will never be forgotten. While he was a "mutt" the Golden Retriever in him was very pronounced and the vet seemed to feel
WEIMARANER was in the mix. Bear got me going on the golden retriever breed. Biscuit (granddaughter named him) came after Bear, he seems to be a mutt with mixed yellow lab in the picture, we have had Biscuit about 6 years now.

Lost our Brandy last November and waited to get Biscuit a 'sister" till after our winter travels and vacation. We just added Charlotte to the household not quite a month ago. She is growing fast as puppies do.


She was right around 9 weeks in the picture. She shows promise and Biscuit seems to have taken to her and is protective of her. He is also very patient and tolerant with her.Well, at least he has not tried to use her as a pull toy yet.

That sucks. They become such a part of our lives and family and saying goodbye is never easy. I had a dog when I met my wife 30 years ago and she had a dog. Been no less than two dogs in our home ever since. We did have 3 for a period. My pets never lied to me or stole from me and always defined unconditional love. I can't say the same about people.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't care what you think. In the cat world, he's a clear success.

 

great day today, but I will be away for a week and Pat will be taken care of by a friend. It is noce that I was able to find a better arrangement for him than a kennel, but still bad. It is funny how difficult it is to leave a dog behind, even for a short time.

Nice... that's quite a playground you built for them... I'm sooooooo glad I'm not the one that has to clean their sandbox!

 

my dog and my neighbor's dog on my tiny backyard. I have to keep mine on a long lead otherwise he has a need to run around and reclaim the neighborhood. It took them a bit to get accustomed to each other, but they are good now. Not friends, but neutral. Mine is pit-lab, she is pit-boxer. I live in a total dog town whoch is really nice

Only, according to by bylaw, I own a restricted dog A restricted dog addicted to licking people...
