The ribs were much more prominent when we found her. Starving and very small body for the head size. Not abuse we think, but extreme neglect for sure. She's happy now though.
She is a Boxer, Pit mix. We found her behind our house 2 months ago. She is about 5 months old now.

 

When I met my wife I had a dog and she had a dog. Thirty years later there have always been two or three dogs at this house. Back in November we lost our Brandy after 16 years and waited till after winter vacation to get another. Biscuit was lonely and missed her so we got him a little sister. Charlotte turned 10 weeks old yesterday and is doing well.

He tries hard to play with her and she is beginning to figure it out. Even the vet noticed he seems protective of her. Anyway, Biscuit and Charlotte are it.

It's tough, I know. I've got a 16-yr old cat and I'm not looking forward to the inevitable day, as you went through.

Anyway, your post sent me looking for a goofy pet photo to evoke a chuckle. I guess you're not a cat person but this is the best I could do.

Looking to me like that "inevitable" day has suddenly become much more inevitable.

Last spring while walking into work I noticed the guy on the left in the parking lot. He let me scoop him up and never tried once to get away.

The next day I got called to come back to my office where the other two were sitting in a box. Took all three home, kept the gray ones, gave the black one to my sister.

So I have always been a dog guy but have not had a pet since I was a teen. I just never felt comfortable keeping a dog at home alone. Plus didn't want to deal with it when I went on vacation. Often I am gone for 2 weeks on one of my bicycle tours or sailing trips. Now with the hardwood floors in the new place, a dog could destroy the floors.

I was thinking about getting a cat but being a single guy living alone I am afraid that would be the last step to being the weird single guy on the block then I would be the weird single cat guy on the block. Then there is dealing with the cat. Liter box and the worst crawling up on places they shouldn't be like kitchen counters.

What I like about cats is they are so independent. Put some food and water down and you can leave them for a few days and they are fine.

Yeah, they do fine on auto pilot. We had one dog when we went on vacation his winter so I paid a friend who is unemployed in NC to come up, house & Dog sit as well as do some minor work on the house. He and Biscuit had a great time and he enjoyed the neighbors. This way the dogs get to remain in their environment and it's a win, win all around.
