D Rings don't have a removable pin.
I guess D rings are single steel pins shaped into a D. Shackle is more correct. And D-Ring has probably been used incorrectly for a while now. Just like the word "Irregardless", which in the past has meant "Without a lack of regard". Or "Regarding" as opposed to the correct term: "Regardless", which means a lack of regard. But having been used incorrectly for so long, irregardless is now a word in the dictionary.
So Tony deserves a break on this one, I think.
Thanks C.

I guess I'm probably known as the community screwup. If your community doesn't have a screw-up - guess who you are.

Screwups are the paths to wisdom, if you don't do the same screwups again.

Early in my career a senior NCO was introducing me to the officers in our unit. There were three relatively new officers ans when the NCO introduced me he said, this I Captain X, he commissioned through ROTC. The officer asked how he knew that. The NCO said, “I see you have a copy of War and Peace. Only college kids read books that big.” As we approached the second officer the NCO introduced the Captain and said he commissioned through OCS. The officer asked how he knew that. The NCO replied, “ I see you have a copy of War and Pease with pages missing. Only someone with prior service would know to take a big damn book to the field incase the paper runs out.” As we approached a third officer I could see him stand a little taller and puff out his chest just a bit. As we walked passed him the NCO told me his name and we kept walking. The NCO whispered that this officer graduated from West Point. The officer, who must have over heard, asked how the NCO knew that. The NCO called back, “I saw your ring while you were picking your nose.”
