I bought a chair last week. Took it home. The next morning there was a table in its place. Later I went into the room and the chair was back. That night it was a footstool. I took it back to the store and complained. He said "What did you expect? You bought an occasional chair."

Now you are reminding me of old joke about verbs vs adjectives:
So person a says "I don't believe in frightening women!"
Then person b responds "Then you haven't met my mother-in-law!"
--Emphasis added--
Or indeed YOU following consumption of ca. ten fingers of Spirytus
:p

I frightened my MIL (not MILF!) the day I met her. She hated me all the time she knew me. I was taking her daughter away - and yes - that frightened the hell out of her. She did everything she could to get rid of me. Didn't work. 33 years of battle. She passed 2 years ago.

I TRIED to show her love and caring. She accepted the help but never did she show love for me. Since her passing I've learned how she tried to get my wife to leave me, offering to pay off our house and give it to me and take my wife back.

Come to think of it - I haven't seen Aleph here in a while now.

Indeed, parents are often (I daresay, in many cases, something like compelled, to be 'overprotective' of their children) where 'overprotective=keep them 'their possession' forever...
IMNSHO the 'prime directive' of parenthood is assuring, to the best of one's abilities and resources, the quality of life/peace of mind of their offspring -- easier said than than done - but there it is...

Many thanks for you candor

Very best regards

Mother Nature made a decision that there should only be two adults in a human household. Life got so much easier once we let the kids go and assumed the education, experiences and habits we impressed upon them would help them survive while we hoped for an occasional visit, phone call and text. So far, it has worked out.

I think I dated the woman in this picture in high school. Do we know each other, @Hypatia's Protege ?
