Would connecting a multimeter to a radio harness pin to determine when a parking brake signal is sent to allow video to play, sufficient? What would the setting be on the multimeter? Would I see a low voltage signal? A grounding out/completion of a circuit?

I appreciate your vigilance but this is for the kids to watch the video in the rear. I wanted to output the video to the rear without spending like $800 on an android system for an older vehicle because new ones are taxed so heavily where I live.

There are a couple companies that make modules that plug in which probably just ground out the right wire in the back. I guess they are in violation of pocket protector ethics code as well…

if i understand correctly, you have a car (mystery model, somewhat old) with some integrated entertainment system.
the entertainment system for the passengers in the back only works while parking brake is on.
so you are looking for a way to defeat it so it works any time you like...
perhaps by shorting something or adding some dongle that fakes some signals or whatever...

is that correct? what car?

the fact is that shorting things at random is not a safe approach. i would try to get more info on the devices that do this, obtain service manual and schematics for the vehicle and look at signal involved. i am not going to do it in my spare time for someone else. but if you can find and post more info, you can get feedback on what others could or would do.
