Hi there

I have an old intergated Technics stereo I've been wanting to make work on and off for years. It's the amp thats not be working. When I turn the whole thing on all the other units work apart from the amp which remains on standby with the little red light on. I've checked as many fuses as I can see inside. Can anyone make any suggestions as I'd like to make it work if I can as I love reserecting stuff.

Thank you

Julian

Let us see what we have to work with it terms of your tools, test equipment, knowledge and background.

What of the following do you possess:

1) DMM
2) oscilloscope and probes
3) an audio signal (or function) generator
4) source of music, e.g. mp3 player
5) playback amplifier, e.g. amplified PC speakers
6) set of hand tools
7) soldering iron
8) desoldering tools, solder wick, solder sucker
9) collection of electronic components such as assorted resistors and capacitors
10) digital camera
11) means and methods of uploading clear sharp photos to AAC forum
12) basic knowledge of electronic circuit schematics

That should do for now.

If you want to start off cheap you can get a DMM from Harbor Freight (sometimes they offer a free coupon for one).
That's all you need for your troubleshooting.

Ok thanks. I've a friend who has a multimeter. I'll ask him if I can use it. Will this be a start to find out which component is the problem ?

Thank you
