I haven't had processed sugar for at least 50 years, no pop, nothing. Every other year I'll drink some Root-beer with my Pizza, otherwise it's just water.
A long time ago I tried my hand at home made cocktail sauce. read hundreds of recipes and tried about that many. I would read then take the recipe and try to duplicate it. They all were Okay and tasted just fine. I love oysters, shrimp, fish and lobster! As I went through the recipes I kept thinking as I tasted "there's something missing"...... It was sugar. a little goes a long ways. Made all the difference. I need to find that recipe now I got a craving for Fried Oysters.

If you ever get around to making them, a picture would be on order... before they disappear... :)

I haven't had oysters that I haven't bought from a sea food place in years.
There's a place (All you can eat) for $16 where I live and I just go there and eat till I pop. I only get the shrimp, fish, Fried lobster nuggets and of course Fried Oysters. They also make their own version of cocktail sauce (home made). Dang it! Now I'm getting worse about it.
I hate you cmarrtinez....... Not really;)

Oh man I wish there was something like that within 100 miles of here. There isn't. I can't even buy oysters in the store with any confidence at all, and really they're no cheaper in the grocery store than in a restaurant.

@Berzerker If from the US south you must be familiar with Chitlins!
I grew up in the UK, and my Grandparents considered Chitlins a delicacy, they used to buy them in the UNCLEANED state.
I never forgot that smell of them being cleaned.!
I usually ate over at a friends when they were on the menu.
Max.

Found it: The recipe! But I must have been drunk or just very vague about what I was doing.
It says>>>>>
1. 2 cups of ketchup
2. 1 table spoon of horseradish
Here's were it gets vague
3. A dash of lemon zest ( Scrapped lemon peel)
4. A dash of lemon juice
5. A dash of mustard seed
6. A dash of celery seed
7. a dash of hot sauce
8. Sugar to taste
Maybe I should go back and tell myself how much a dash is!

Yes Max! and I like them. My Mom could cook some great things as I was growing up. No I didn't like them when I was young but as you grow older your taste buds change. I also didn't like Tomatoes, cabbage, rutabagas and onions when I was little. But that was then.

You like your oysters raw, fried or grilled? Oysters are plentiful in the Boston area. And fresh, too. Like they were in the sea that morning. A local restaurant has a raw oyster special on Tuesdays. $1/oyster. Dinner is a couple dozen downed with s local brew. I’ve posted s couple brews from there in Tonight’s Libation.

Honey is a complex sugar and will work as well, processed sugar will spike your body and leave as quick as it started. So, I use Honey in place of sugar in many things we choose to eat sweet. Me not so much, but those fried Oysters sound tasty, my dad got me on them but we're not close to the coast to get them fresh.

Fish and Lobster I don't care for clams.

Don't forget scallops and mussels!
Edit: No cmartinez... I don't want that world.
I know my limits

As we speak of these, I question the Gulf of Mexico and the last oil spill. Not sure how the east coast is but, when I'm there I plan to consume a few, raw is doable but, I choose not, rather to cook, breaded even sounds more tasty. When you'er on the road it's all in or not at all.

Sorry, @cmartinez about your seafood, makes me sad to think about it. Wish we had better answers for those issues, I learn the clean up chemical is sort of nasty by itself.

Yes! My preference is probably that list in reverse order. I can enjoy a few raw but usually all I can think about is how much better it would be grilled. I was in awe of the guys I saw at the bar in Boston, filling their mugs with shucked oysters and then downing them like beer. I prefer to savor mine, as they are a rare treat.

Ahhh don't fret so much. We all only live 60 to 80 years anyways (most of us) 100 or better if your lucky! Eating out the the ocean is still one of the cleanest food sources you can get! Just look what's in hotdogs, spam or potted meat ?
Tongues, lips and other parts I won't mention.

Sorry, at the molecular level it's almost impossible to distinguish honey from HFCS. That's why it's so hard to catch adulteration. Both contain small amounts of maltose in addition to the fructose and glucose, even smaller amounts of higher oligosaccharides, and honey has a small amount of sucrose as well.

The carbs in honey that are NOT these simple sugars are less than 2% of the dry weight. I agree that honey has some redeeming qualities but sugar composition isn't one of them.
