switching logic for 2.5bit pipeline ADC

Bellow we have 2.5 pipeline section ,With the Vout Vin diagram. In the diagram We see 6 transitions. But in the circuit we see 3 MUX'es with 3 wires each going inside so there are 9 transitions.
I cant see how its 6 transitions as shown i the Vou_Vin plot?
