Substitute for the old 2N2222A? (NM - brain cramp)

I'm in the process of spec'ing out parts for my project, and it seems that 'old reliable' 2N2222A (and variants) is getting tough to find in either the TO-18 / TO-92 / SOT-23 variants, or I'm looking in the wrong places. Even the similarly 'common' 2N3904 seems to be drying up as well.

Off the top of the brain trust's head, what substitutes are acceptable? I have a total of three in my present design - one used as an amplifier, the other two as a switch.

Difficult to believe that they're hard to find.

What voltages (Vceo, Vcbo), frequency, currents, power dissipation, etc do you require?

Look for the PN version. You will save money and depending on the manufacturer they are available with a collector current of 600mA to 1A.

As far as I know, there was never a 2N2222 in T092, it has always been PN2222 for that package. Perhaps that is why you are having difficulty finding it.

It's Thursday, isn't it?

Chalk it up to a massive brainfart. I followed the wrong link and yes, it's still available... just have to look for the RoHS version.

The first lot of 2N2222 I bought (more than 30 years ago I think) was in metallic TO-18 package. There is one of them still around, salvaged many times from different circuits.

BTW, in that drawer there is a box with a trove of (alert Canada!!) several opamps (741, what else?) with metallic package. Sorry, I had to say it...
